Teaching & Learning

Curriculum LaSalle Catholic College offers students a wide range of subjects and academic opportunities. Religious Education In proclaiming the Gospel, LaSalle Catholic College strives to make known the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. St John Baptist de la Salle was convinced that touching the hearts of our students and inspiring them with the Christian spirit is the greatest miracle a Catholic school can perform.  Extension Classes “All students regardless of race, age or gender, by virtue of their dignity as human persons, have a right to an education that is suited to their particular needs and adapted to their ability.”   Pope Paul VI Extra Curriculum

St. John Baptist De La Salle

Founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, Patron of Christian Teachers. John Baptist de La Salle was born into a world very different from our own. He was the first son of wealthy parents living in France over 300 years ago. Born at Reims, John Baptist de La Salle received the tonsure at age eleven and was named Canon of the Reims Cathedral at sixteen. Though he had to assume the administration of family affairs after his parents died, he completed his theological studies and was ordained a priest on April 9, 1678.Two years later he received a doctorate in theology. Meanwhile he became tentatively involved with a group of rough and barely literate young men in order to establish schools for poor boys. At that time a few people lived in luxury, but most of the people were extremely poor: peasants in the country, and slum dwellers in the towns. Only, a few could send their children to school; most children had little hope for the future. Moved by the plight of the poor who seemed so “far from salvation” either in this world or the next, he determined to put his own talents and […]

Opportunity Class

“All students regardless of race, age or gender, by virtue of their dignity as human persons, have a right to an education that is suited to their particular needs and adapted to their ability.”   Pope Paul VI Solomon Opportunity Program At LaSalle Catholic College we believe that academically gifted students benefit from programs that are designed to meet their special needs. Our approach to gifted education has been informed by empirical research and data, and our gifted education program offers an extensive range of opportunities for gifted and talented students who elect to join our Lasallian community. Our Approach Our Solomon Opportunity Classes are based on the belief that academically talented students will more readily work towards achieving their potential if they are able to access a dynamic, relevant and challenging curriculum in a supportive environment with their intellectual peers. It should be noted that our Solomon Opportunity Class concept differs significantly from streaming which is usually associated with a whole year level group being allocated to differentiated classes on a sliding scale from the ‘top’ class to the ‘bottom’ class. The Solomon Opportunity Class is only one class, as is the MacKillop class: all other learning groups in Years 7 […]
