The
de La Salle Brothers is an
order founded in France in 1680 by John Baptist De La Salle. The Brothers’
official title is the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
The De La Salle Brothers were invited to Australia from Ireland in 1906. In the
same year, they opened their first Australian school at Armidale, New South
Wales.
Currently, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western
Australia have Lasallian Schools.
LaSalle Catholic College, Bankstown is fortunate to have the direct service and
influence of the Brothers in Br. John Pill as College Principal, Br. David Miller as
Religious Education Co-ordinator and teacher and Br Anthony Cummins as College
Campus Minister and teacher.
In Queensland, the Brothers are heavily involved in residential care for boys at Boystown. They conduct
the Kids Help Line,
which is a 24-hour anonymous telephone counselling service that can be accessed
nationwide.
